Many Christians love Jesus deeply and still freeze when a colleague asks what they did on Sunday. We worry about saying it wrong, being asked something we cannot answer, or spoiling a friendship. The good news is that sharing your faith was never meant to be a performance.

Start with your own story

The woman at the well had no training. After one conversation with Jesus she went back to her town and said, "Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did" (John 4:29). Many believed because of what she told them.

Your testimony is the same kind of story: what life was like before, how you came to know Jesus, and what is different now. Practise telling it in two minutes. You will be surprised how often the chance comes up.

Be ready, and be kind

Peter tells us to "be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you", and to do it "with meekness and fear" (1 Peter 3:15). How you speak matters as much as what you say. People remember whether they felt respected long after they forget the argument.

Simple ways in

1. Pray for three namesAsk God to open doors with three people you already know, and keep praying for them by name.
2. Ask good questions"Have you ever prayed?" or "What do you think happens when we die?" Then listen more than you talk.
3. InviteSometimes the most powerful words are simply, "Come with me on Sunday."
4. Offer to prayMost people, even those far from faith, will welcome a prayer when life is hard.

When you do not know the answer

Say so. "That is a good question. Let me find out" is an honest answer, and it gives you a reason to talk again. Changing hearts is the work of the Holy Spirit (John 16:8). Our part is to be faithful witnesses, and He gives the power for that too (Acts 1:8).
